Is Sweet Potato Low FODMAP?
Depends on portion or type
It depends on the portion. A small serving is generally low, but larger servings are high in mannitol.
Main FODMAPs: Mannitol
Why
Unlike regular potatoes, sweet potatoes contain mannitol, a polyol. A small serving is generally tolerated, but a large baked sweet potato or a pile of fries can be enough to cause symptoms.
Good to know
- Sweet potato fries and sweet potato chips are often large portions.
