Is Broccoli Low FODMAP?

Depends on portion or type

It depends on the portion. Small to moderate servings are generally well tolerated, but large servings are higher.

Main FODMAPs: Fructans

Why

Broccoli contains fructans, and how much you get depends on the part you eat and the size of the serving. Modest servings are generally well tolerated, which makes broccoli one of the easier vegetables to include. Eating a very large bowl, though, can add up.

Good to know

  • Frozen and fresh broccoli are similar.
  • Broccolini and broccoli rabe have their own tolerances, so check them separately.
  • Cooking does not remove fructans, but it makes the vegetable easier to chew and digest for some people.

Tips and swaps

  • Green beans
  • Carrots
